In the meantime, a tiny random musing from me. I'm in the habit of sending Ryann a near constant barrage of links, and if she were online today, I would send her this scene from The Trip. This film brings back fond memories of our travels around Scotland, and our unique ability to keep each other wildly entertained at all times. The endless nonsense we can spout at each other is unparalleled, and if you don't have a friend who can find cause to make you laugh in the midst of a total emotional breakdown at the Edinburgh airport after two cancelled flights, you should find one. RIGHT!? I can't wait to have Miss Ferguson in Los Angeles to battle the Edinburgh airports of life together xoxox

A Taste of Scotland in SoCal

Hello hello, McC here! While Miss Ferguson's wanderlust continues to Skye this weekend, I thought I'd drop in with a little Scottish love from sunny El-Layyyy.

Robert Burns eats at The Gorbals, no joke!

Do you watch Top Chef? I don't, but that doesn't keep me from loving Ilan Hall's Scottish/Jewish fusion restaurant in downtown Los Angeles. The Gorbals is named after the neighborhood in Glasgow where Ilan's father grew up, and its odd mash-up of cuisines makes for a fantastic dining experience. Sneak through the lobby of the Alexandria Hotel, order yourself a Rosemary's Baby at the bar (rosemary rum, milk, the king's ginger, and cinnamon...mmm), and prepare yourself for an oddball evening.

I'm no food critic, but I will say there's something particularly delightful about a menu that includes haggis burgers, paella, chicken skin sandwiches, gefilte fish ‘n chips, and bacon-wrapped matzoh balls. Matzoh balls. Wrapped in BACON. Some highlights for the table: the buttery-butter butterfest that was the roasted bone marrow, the bánh mì poutine, and surprisingly, the broccoli, soy, chilies, and vinegar. I found the sticky toffee pudding underwhelming, but that is more likely due to my strong bias for the Edinburgh version than any fault in Mr. Hall's recipe.

In the off chance that this blog has not persuaded you already, I am here to attest that Miss Ferguson lives in a truly special place. We laughed, we cried, we sang in the streets and offered to split candy bars with strangers. We drank Irn Bru...we watched Downton Abbey, played in the snow, and took a costume-drama tour of Edinburgh, too! It was paradise in a teacup, and I hope to return very, very soon.

Greetings Fergie & Fifers, Miss Jane here (aka McC)!

Miss Ferguson has granted me guest blogging privileges while she settles into her big new life, and I'm thrilled to grace the pages of this lovely real-life Anthropologie catalogue. :)

Let me begin by declaring Ryann my interior design SOUL MATE. It was in the womb room circa the NYC transit strike of 2005 that our love was born, and the pages of Domino magazine (RIP) where it flourished. This girl can talk about the emotional benefits of an orange accent wall like no one I know (aside from maybe myself).


As she settles into her new home and makes St. Andrews her own, I thought I would post a little interior inspiration in the form of my favorite apartment on the planet.

It might be my rainy Seattle roots talking, but is this not the most delicious color palette you have ever seen?? It makes me think of a moody Scottish moor, with a bit of New York City sophisticate thrown in for good measure...kinda like Miss Fergie herself!


I picture the Brontë sisters living here if they were a little less Wuthering Heights, and a little more sleek Manhattan pied-à-terre.
